Parkinson's Disease Service
City Hospitals Sunderland Parkinson’s Disease (PD) service is run by Neurologists, a Care of the Elderly Consultant and PD Specialist Nurses. We care for patients diagnosed with young-onset PD through to more advanced and complex stages of the condition.
The Parkinson's Disease service is part of the Neurology department.
The PD team runs new patient clinics and review clinics in which your specialist will discuss with you the options available to help meet your individual needs. Your specialist will provide you with appropriate and timely care and advice in all areas surrounding your condition and will include PD medication management.
The PD team also offers support to PD patients who are inpatients in City Hospitals Sunderland and provide specialist advice to the ward staff involved in their care.
The PD team works closely with other members of the multi-disciplinary team including Specialist Pharmacists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and the Speech and Language Department. At your clinic visit your specialist will identify and refer you to the aforementioned services if required.
We also have strong links with voluntary organisations including Parkinson’s UK and Age UK.There are also opportunities for our PD patients to be involved in research studies which the PD nurses will facilitate.
