Staff at City Hospitals Sunderland and South Tyneside NHS Foundation Trusts are appealing for the public’s support as they prepare to deal with the traditional winter surge which puts pressure on all parts of the health and social care system.

​As temperatures reach below freezing, NHS England is today advising the public on ways of staying well this winter, as the number of people being admitted to A&E is likely to increase significantly due to the cold weather.

Anne Clay was chosen to receive the prestigious Chief Executive's award at this years Staff Reward and Recognition event. Anne has comitted her career to serving the people of Sunderland in her role as Switchboard Manager, making sure that those contacting the hosptial reached those they needed, and later as a representative for Union, making sure the voices of public sector employees are heard.

With temperatures set to drop further, the NHS in North Cumbria and the North East is encouraging all those at risk of falls to take extra care.

The Research Team at Sunderland Eye Infirmary was given special recognition at the national Ophthalmology Honours in London last night and presented with the Judges’ Special Award.
