Perioperative Risk Evaluation and Preparation Clinic (PREP)

PREP is a nurse led clinic where we determine if you are physically fit enough to go under anaesthetic and have surgery.

The Perioperative Risk Evaluation and Preparation Clinic (PREP) is part of Theatres.

Preparing a patient for surgery and anaesthesia requires an understanding of the patient’s pre-operative status, the nature of the surgery and the anaesthetic techniques required for surgery as well as the risks that particular patient may face during this time.

PREP determines:

  • Whether you are fit enough for your intended procedure.
  • What investigation or specialist referrals are necessary prior to your procedure.
  • What is needed to optimise your preparation.

The Perioperative Risk Evaluation and Preparation Clinic is also keen to improve your general health so that you receive maximum health benefit from your procedure.
