Haematology (Phoenix Unit)
The Phoenix Unit provides haematology services for patients in the South of Tyne region. It is responsible for clinical and laboratory haematology services at Sunderland Royal Hospital, South Tyneside District Hospital and at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Gateshead.
The Phoenix Unit is the Trust's Chemotherapy, Haematology and Infusion Day Unit. Sunderland is recognised as a Cancer Unit and is part of the North of England Cancer Network. The Phoenix Unit is a hub for a range of settings for the provision of chemotherapy service - hospital, home and outreach - depending on a patient's preference and treatment type.
The home chemotherapy service allows patients to have their treatment in the comfort of their own home and also provides them with a choice of where it is most convenient and suitable to receive therapy. Outreach Service is provided from Washington Primary Care Centre. Inpatient chemotherapy is delivered to haematology patients only at Sunderland Royal Hospital.
The Phoenix Unit is open Monday to Friday between 8.30 am and 7 pm and Saturday between 8.30 am and 2.30 pm.Phoenix Unit objectives
