The Department of Renal Medicine is a sub-regional unit providing renal investigations, treatment and replacement therapy to patients from the surrounding areas of Sunderland, North Durham, Gateshead and South Tyneside, a population in excess of 500,000.

The department of Renal Medicine is located at Sunderland Royal Hospital on A level, with easiest access from Kayll road. Services are also provided at satellite units in Durham and Washington.
