The purpose of the Discharge Lounge is to facilitate adult patient discharge from the Emergency Department, Ambulatory Care and inpatient wards in order to provide patient flow through the organisation.

The Discharge Lounge is situated on B Floor at Sunderland Royal Hospital and can be accessed both internally and externally:
Internal Access – from B floor corridor
External Access – Entrance 7
The Lounge consists of 2 bays for discharged patients, a waiting area for the mobile Scanning Unit and the REM Outpatient facility.
In order to maintain patient privacy and dignity, the patients are nursed in male and female bays. The male bay includes a nurses station, 2 beds and a seating area than can accommodate up to 8 patients and the female bay includes a nurses station, two beds, a trolley bay, a patient waiting area that can accommodate up to 12 patients and a dining facilities. Both bays also have a television and direct access to a garden with seating areas.
