Proposed BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing Practice programme to train nurses in Sunderland

21 January 2016

We are delighted to announce that the University of Sunderland, working in partnership with the Sunderland CARE Academy, which includes City Hospitals Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust, South Tyneside NHS Foundation Trust, Northumberland Tyne and Wear Mental Health Foundation Trust and the Sunderland CCG, has been successful in gaining validation from the NMC in principle, to run a pre-registration adult nurse programme. If approval is confirmed by the NMC, the programme will be a 3 year full time BSc (Hons) degree programme, with placements provided within City Hospitals Sunderland and the CARE Academy partner organisations.

The programme is non-commissioned, meaning you will have to get a student loan and bursary to undertake the programme, though following the government’s Comprehensive Spending Review November 2015; all nursing programmes will be non-commissioned from August 2017.

Subject to final sign off by the NMC Board, the programme will take the first cohort of 25 student nurses in May 2016, with interviews being held in March 2016.

If you already have university entry requirements for a BSc (Hons) nursing programme, and are interested in completing your programme in Sunderland, watch this space, as we will publish more information as it becomes available.
