Our physiotherapy teams aim to treat and/or prevent physical difficulties in order to improve health and well being.

We use a wide range of treatment techniques and approaches which are individually selected to meet your needs and enhance the quality of your life.

 

Our Team

Our team of Physiotherapists will use their professional skills to assess, diagnose and treat a variety of health issues. We offer expert advice to help you understand and manage your condition.

We support you in taking responsibility for your own care and progress by providing you with a personalised management programme. We work in partnership with other health care professionals to identify treatment goals that are centred on your needs whether you are a patient in hospital, attending an out patient appointment or we see you in a community setting.

Physiotherapy provides treatment for all ages from babies through to older adults. Physiotherapy can help you to:

  • Change to a healthier lifestyle.
  • Regain fitness after an accident, surgery, fracture or illness
  • Improve or regain movement
  • Improve or manage pain
  • Improve functional activities
  • Improve pelvic floor function
  • Breathe more easily
  • Stress Management and Relaxation
  • Manage long term effects of conditions (for example arthritis and neurological conditions)

 

Where we work

Physiotherapy Services are available at Sunderland Royal Hospital throughout in-patient wards and the Physiotherapy Outpatient Department. They are also available across the community in leisure centres, health centres and GP practices.

Physiotherapy Paediatric Services are based at the Children’s Centre,  Durham Road, however the team does visit some children within the nursery and school environment.

When necessary home visits for both children and adults can be arranged.
