Elderly Medicine (Geriatrics)

Elderly MedicineThe Care of the Elderly Department provides care to patients over the age of 65; both in an in-patient and out-patient setting. The Department provides general nursing care as well as specialist care for heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), stroke Care, end of life care and falls.

We work closely with Social Services and community services to ensure safe discharge of patients from hospital either to their own home or into nursing or residential care.

We also work closely with the mental health Trust and have a liaison service for those patients with mental health problems in old age, in a general care setting.
